There’s more to the National Park Service than National
Parks! There’s National Monuments, National Memorials, National Historic Sites
and a bunch more! We really enjoy visiting the lesser-known places. One
of the things we like to do when planning our route is check out the NPS.gov
site to see what’s in the area. We’ve discovered places we didn’t even know
existed!
There’s so much to explore! So get out there!
Just because we live in a tiny house on wheels doesn't mean we can't decorate for Christmas!
Saw this in a bathroom and loved it! Please don't flush anyone's Hopes & Dreams! |
The beautiful dresses representing the different cultures!
The problem with
having a river mark the border between countries is that rivers change course!
El Chamizal is a piece of land that was affected by The Rio Grande changing
course.
Chamizal National Memorial commemorates the Convention of 1963.
It’s a fascinating story. The convention ended a century old dispute
when leaders of 2 nations show intelligence, maturity and respect for each
other. Something sorely missing in today’s United States! I encourage you to
visit Chamizal National Memorial or at least learn about it at the NPS.gov
website!
The murals on the walls outside were amazing!
Mexico out Larry's window!
The United States out mine!
On to another fascinating site!
Prehistoric Trackways National Monument is a new Monument. It is one of many established under the Obama Administration. As yet there is no Visitor Center. We walked along the trail for quite a ways but apparently you have to go a lot further than we did to actually see the footprints of prehistoric creatures! It was a great hike anyway and the puppies loved getting out with us!
After Prehistoric Trackways we went to Organ Mountains/Desert
Peaks National Monument! After we got there we realized we’d gone there in May,
the last time we visited Las Cruces! For some reason I forgot to check it off
my list! Oh well, It’s awesome we got to see it again!
So much to see! Go see it!
