Lava Lands, Lakes and Lots of Snow!

May 2017

We’ve been through Central Oregon several times and as much as I love seeing Crater Lake National Park we decided to take the coast route this time. There’s a Coast to Coast RV Park on the way to the coast called Cascade Meadow. It’s a nice little park and since it was early May, not too crowded. From there we visited Lava Lands National Monument. I had no idea Oregon was so filled with volcanic activity.

We had a really nice picnic at one of the many lakes in the area. The weather was mild and sunny and the dogs had a great time barking at the birds. The next day we toured Lava Lands and drove up Lava Butte! They only allow 10 cars at a time up the hill so we had to get a reservation to go up. Luckily being early May that wasn’t a problem. The top of the Butte looks down into a small caldera. After Lava Lands we drove to a slightly higher altitude and was met with a 40 foot wall of snow! They had record amounts of snow and a lot of things that would normally be open that time of year were still snowbound! But no problem. When we ran out of things to see in nature we got the puppies all bedded down and drove into town to enjoy The Guardians of the Galaxy in IMAX 3D! That was pretty cool too!

The skies were so blue!

And so was the water!

The lookout tower on the top of Lava Butte!

Have I mentioned that dead trees fascinate me?

The caldera at the top of the Butte!

Going a little higher!

That is A LOT of snow!

Guardians of the Galaxy was awesome!

About Me

Larry and I decided to retire and hit the road. We bought a new 5th Wheel and new truck to pull it. We packed up the dogs and we're heading out to check off that bucket list. We wake up every morning and "Thank Our Lucky Stars" that we get to do this.
